The candidate must be an Indian and should be of
age not more than 28 years (for JRF). There is no fixed maximum age limit for
the post of Assistant Professor.
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks
in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions
recognized by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science,
Computer Science &Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for
this UGC NET.
However, candidates belonging to categories
other than a general who has secured minimum 50% are eligible for the UGC NET
exam.
Also, students who have not yet completed the
Masters or are appearing for the final year examination can also apply for the
UGC NET exam.
UGC NET exam consists of 3 Papers (I, II, III).
The syllabus for UGC paper I is same for all the subjects comprising topics
like Reasoning, Analytical Skills, Basic Computer Science, Environment, General
Knowledge, Teaching and Research Aptitude, Statistics, etc. However, UGC paper
II and paper III have their own set of syllabus according to the choice of

UGC NET exam consists of three papers. All the
three papers consist of only objective type questions.
Paper-I is of general nature that evaluates
teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It is designed to test reasoning
ability, comprehension and general awareness of the candidate. 60 multiple
choice questions of two marks each are given, out of which the candidate is
required to answer any 50.
Paper-II consists of 50 questions that carry 2
marks each.
Paper-III consists of 75 questions that carry 2
marks each. All the questions of UGC paper II and paper III are compulsory.
UGC NET Exam is conducted twice every year.
First in the month of June and then again in December (usually in the last two
weeks of the month). UGC exam is conducted at a large scale in many Government
institutions all over the country.
