AIPMT Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the AIPMT exam, the student must be of the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course and should be of Indian nationality.
A student who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard whose result is awaited, may apply and take up the said test but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to the MBBS or BDS, if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage of marks at the time of first round of Counselling. Also, a student of an Indian University who has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English is also eligible for AIPMT.
The maximum age for a student is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance examination. However, this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes.
AIPMT
is conducted usually in the first week of May once every year across different
centers all over the country.
AIPMT
exam consists of one paper containing 180 objective type questions (MCQs) from
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) having 45 questions from
each subject to be answered on the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet using
Ball Point Pen provided by CBSE at the center only. Each question carries 4
marks. For each incorrect response, one mark is deducted from the total score.
However, no deduction from the total score is made if no response is indicated
for an item.
The
AIPMT exam duration is 3 hours. Candidates can opt for Question Paper either in
English or in Hindi. Candidates opting for English would be provided Test
Booklet in English only and the candidates opting for Hindi would be provided
Bilingual Test Booklet i.e. in Hindi and in English.
The
Question Papers for the AIPMT test shall be based on a common syllabus notified
by the Medical Council of India. AIPMT exam is designed according to the
combined syllabus of class 10+1 and class 10+2 science subjects including
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. These three subjects have their respective
syllabi that constitute the syllabus for the AIMPT exam.
The AIPMT exam result is declared in the month of June on the official website after which the counseling process starts.
AIPMT is the primary test for entry into the medical profession. It is one of the most competitive exams in the field of medicine. A candidate aiming for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) or BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is required to qualify the first entry-level exam ie AIPMT. It is the stepping stone for higher level degrees like M.D. and M.D.S. It is important to get admission into a reputed Medical Institution to ensure quality education and hence a well-paying Career.
