     Exam Plan

Two stages will make up the UPSC Civil Services Examination: (i) the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type), which will be used to select candidates for the Main Examination; and (ii) the Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview), which will be used to select candidates for the various Services and posts.

The Union Public Service Commission holds the Civil Services Examination (CSE), a national competitive exam, in India for the recruitment of higher civil services, such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service.

The CSE is modeled by imperial civil service exams from the British era as well as those administered by former Indian empires like the Mauryan Empire and the Mughal Empire. One of the most challenging competitive exams in India is this one. A single try may require two full years of preparation—one year before the preliminary exams and another from those exams to the interview. Every year, between 900,000 and 1,000,000 people apply on average, and roughly 550,000 candidates take the preliminary exam. The final results are released in May of the following year, whereas the Preliminary results are released in the middle of August.

Preliminary Examination, Stage I: Annually held in June. In August, the outcomes are released.

Stage II: The Mains Exam, which is annually held in October. The outcomes are revealed in January.

Interview/personality test: held in March. In May, the final findings are often released.

The training program for the chosen candidates typically starts the following September when the medical examination of the successful candidates and other required requirements are completed.
