JEE (Joint Entrance Examination Mains + Advanced)

JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2024 are not the same things. Yes, they are related, but if a person does not want to take any of these two tests, the preparation scenario will be very different.


There's no need to panic. Simply being fully aware of both tests allows you to develop plans and be well-prepared before the exam date arrives. So, what are the most important pieces of information to remember? It will be the exam pattern, the questions, the process, and the dates, because, in the end, time is the most crucial factor. 


What are JEE Mains and JEE Advanced?

To understand the benefits of these exams, it is necessary to first understand their differences. JEE mains is available to everyone, however, JEE advanced is only for certain students. Anyone who has completed their 12th grade can take the JEE Mains exam. However, only candidates who have passed the JEE Mains exam are eligible to take JEE Advanced.


Students who wish to increase their chances of admission to IITs can sit the JEE Advanced exam. However, it is not required to take both tests. One can also acquire admission to IITs without taking JEE Advanced, but they must score better than the cut-off.

JEE Main + Advanced 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The only difference is that one must secure a higher rank in JEE mains to take the JEE advanced.  The other criteria mentioned below remain the same for both exams.

Age:

There is no age limit. Candidates who will sit for their 12th-grade board examinations in 2024 are eligible to take this exam. Students in the special category are granted a five-year relaxation.

Educational Qualifications:

Science student and JEE Mains qualifier. International students can take JEE Advanced without taking the mains. In such a case, they need to fill other criteria. To know more, refer to https://jeeadv.ac.in/foreign.html.

Academic Percentage:

75% for general and OBC categories. 65% for others.

Attempts:

JEE mains can be taken 6 times in 3 consecutive years and JEE Advanced can be taken 2 times in 2 consecutive years.

Application Process for Both Exams

The application process for both exams remains the same. Those who have taken the JEE mains would not face any problem filling the Advanced one. 


Registration

Students can visit the website and register using credentials such as their email address and phone number. 

Application Form Fill-Up

The candidate needs to provide essential details like address proof, signature, ID proof, and submission.

Fee Payment

Students must pay the required fees to finish the application process. Without the fee, the application will not be submitted. 

Download Admit Card

Candidates can visit the site and download their JEE admit card by logging in to their account.

Important Dates (JEE Mains and Advanced 2024)

Before we get started, here are some essential dates for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. These examinations take a long time before they take place. There is a whole process behind a single day or two. From registration to getting admission cards and selecting exam centres, the procedure began in November 2023. 


All these types of information are available on their official website, https://jeemain.nta.ac.in/ and  https://www.jeeadv.ac.in/index.html. Here are the dates covering all the important events. 

Date of Registration and Application Submission

The registration process for JEE mains session 1 began on November 1st and continued until December 4th. Furthermore, two additional days were provided to make the necessary changes to the application forms, resulting in the process being completed on December 6th.

The procedure for Session 2 began on February 2nd and will continue till March. 


JEE Advanced 2024 registration will be happening from 21st April to 30th April. However, the fee payment date is till 6th May.

JEE Mains + Advanced 2024 Admit Card Download

The admit card for both examinations is only available after the entire registration process is completed. The admit card for JEE Mains session 1 was out in January and for session 2, it will be available in April. JEE Advanced 2024 students can collect the admit card on 17th May from the respective website.

Result and Answer Key

JEE Mains Session 1 results were declared on 12th February. The dates for the second session are not declared yet. JEE Advanced students can get the answer key on 2nd June and the final result on 9th June.

Important Dates (AAT)

This exam comes considerably later. AAT is for people who desire to study architecture. To take this test, candidates must first achieve high rankings in JEE Advanced. The relevant dates are mentioned here.

The exam pattern is significantly different. When it comes to JEE mains, the exam structure for the first session is different from the second session as the second session is for course-specific candidates. Those who want to study architecture or planning should attend session 2 of JEE mains.

Exam Centers for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2024

The centers for both exams cover all the states. Students will be getting more multiple exam centers in their state. Therefore, they should choose their feasible ones at the time of form submission. 

Remember that in special cases, students may be sent to a separate exam centre that will not be changed.

How Many Students Appeared for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced?

11,13,325 students appeared for these exams. But one needs to understand that these numbers are jee mains and advanced combined. Not all the JEE Main students take JEE Advanced.

JEE Mains and Advanced Response Sheet

Following the completion of the tests, candidates can access the respective response sheets. To obtain it, they must log in to their accounts made on the relevant websites. This manner, they will be able to predict the grades.

JEE 2024 Answer Key Challenge

To challenge the answer key, go to the respective tests' official website and click the "Challenge answer key" link. After which the questions and the answer options will be provided along with the correct answer set by NTA.

Candidates need to choose their answer and provide supporting documents for the same.

JEE Counselling Process

Finally, the counseling procedure will decide which Institute you will join. Remember the many institutes that participate, such as IITs and GFTIs. Only the top-ranked students are admitted to the IITs. It is not possible to do this alone through JEE Mains. This is why students take the JEE Advanced exam. Ranking high in this one secures admission to IITs. This is the difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The seat allocation is handled by JoSAA.
